摘要
NGC 5237 is a low brightness elliptical galaxy with a peculiar superposed H II region. Its radial velocity, as measured from the emission lines of the H II region - and approximately confirmed by the stellar absorption lines - is V = 328 km s-1. When corrected for the Sun's galactocentric motion, the radial velocity is reduced to V0 = 116 km s-1, a value so low that the galaxy must belong to the Local Group - though it is not so close that individual stars can be resolved on the Schmidt sky surveys. If at a distance of 1 Mpc, its diameter is 400 pc. © 1981 Royal Astronomical Society. Provided by the NASA Astrophysics Data System.
