摘要
Endogenous oligogalacturonides capable of inducing the biosynthesis of naphthoquinone pigments, shikonin derivatives, in cell cultures of Lithospermum erythrorhizon have been isolated and chemically elucidated. Analyses of the chemical composition and linkage of these sugars revealed that the active principle is an alpha-1,4-linked linear oligogalacturonide consisting of an average of 18 galacturonic acid units. Bioassays using a series of oligogalacturonides with various degrees of polymerization (2-15) indicated that the minimum degree of polymerization required for the induction of shikonin biosynthesis is 12.
