THE INELASTIC MEAN FREE-PATH OF ELECTRONS IN THE ORDERED AL48NI52 ALLOY

Surfaces of polycrystalline samples of Al, Ni and Al//4//8Ni//5//2 were polished with water suspended alumina. The long range order in the alloy sample was determined with x-ray diffractometry. The samples were mounted in a standard vacuum chamber with a base pressure of 10** minus **1**0 Torr. The surfaces were carefully cleaned with cycles of 2 KeV ar plus bombardment and annealing. Prior to measurements the samples were sputtered. The sum of all the contaminants (mainly carbon) during measurements never exceeded 5-7 percent of a monolayer. 22 Refs.
