摘要
Two Miocene primates, Prohylobates tandyi and ?Dryopithecus mogharensis, named in 1918 have long been considered apes. These types are now shown to be synonyms and the species (prior name: Prohylobates tandyi) is newly described and diagnosed. Tooth and jaw structure of Prohylobates is similar to that of an unnamed monkey species from the East African Miocene. Both of these in turn could be derived from African Oligocene monkeys like Parapithecus. © 1969 Nature Publishing Group.
