SELF-ASSEMBLY OF STREPTAVIDIN BISBIOTIN MONOLAYERS AND MULTILAYERS

摘要
It is shown that a solution containing a 2:1 mixture of 1,4-bis(biotinamidomethyl)benzene and streptavidin readily polymerises into rigid, rod-like molecules. The affinity of the protein for the biotin ligand is then exploited in the controlled assembly of a multilayer film of streptavidin approximately 40 nm thick. Surface plasmon resonance measurements confirm that the film is assembled one monolayer at a time.
