对外汉语教学学科的基本问题和基本方法

The author of this paper holds that the basic problem in teaching Chinese as a second language is that of language competence. He then expounds various aspects of language competence such as its relation to the ability of cognition and communication. In the second part of this paper, having pointed out the limitations of traditional methodology, he suggests that up to date methods for the research in language teaching like experiments, testing and statistics should be employed for the research in the teaching of Chinese as a second language as a new discipline.
