肺炎支原体（mycoplasma pneumoniae,MP）是各年龄段儿童急性上、下呼吸道感染的常见病原,其年感染发病率为9.6%66.7%,每隔3～8年有一次流行,并可在一个密闭环境中如学校、幼托机构、夏令营等造成暴发。MP感染无性别差异,但年龄特征明显,MP感染可发生在婴幼儿甚至新生儿,但4～20岁为最易感人群。全年均有散发,我国北方以冬季多发,南方则以夏秋季较多。MP培养阳性率较低,临床诊断多用抗体滴度测定,而聚合酶链反应（PCR）扩增特异性基因片断检测,极大提高了MP诊断率。检测方法和判定标准可明显影响MP流行病学的评估。
