摘要
Mismatches in DNA replication arise due to replication errors and as natural consequences of genetic recombination when the heteroduplex intermediate spans genetic differences between the recombination helices. This review covers these factors thoroughly. Topics discussed include Escherichia coli methyl-directed mismatch repair, mismatch repair in eukaryotes, coupling of mismatch recognition and strand discrimination, mismatch repair in the DNA damage response, and other functions of mismatch repair.
