Mechanistic studies of ligand-induced thermolytic reductive elimination of biaryl from tetraarylosmium(IV)

摘要
The reaction of new tetraarylosmium(IV) complexes Os(2,4-Me(2)C(6)H(3))(4) and Os(4-F-2-MeC(6)H(3))(4) with PMe(3) and P(OMe)(3) has been investigated, as have the reactions between Os(2-MeC(6)H(4))(4) and PMe(3), P(OMe)(3), P(OEt)(3) and P(OBu(n))(3). These lead to reductive C-C elimination, forming hexahaptobiaryl species Os(eta(6)-Ar-2)(Ar)(2)(PR(3)) as initial products (Ar = 2,4-Me(2)C(6)H(3), 4-F-2-MeC(6)H(3), R = Me, Ar = 2-MeC(6)H(4), R = Me, OMe, Oft and OBu(n)). Kinetic analyses of these rearrangements suggest an associative mechanism, in which coordination of the P-donor and intramolecular reductive C-C elimination are synchronous.
