The oxidation of single crystal nichkel-based superalloys

摘要：

A phase transformation occurs in nickel-based single-crystal superalloys as a result of the oxidation that creates the external NiO scale. This transformation, which is the precursor to internal oxidation, creates the beta phase (NiAl) first followed by the delta phase (Ni2Al3) prior to the formation of the spinel Ni (Cr,Al)(2)O-4 and Al2O3 in succession. The implications of this effect on the rate of oxidation are discussed in this article.
