Di(2-pyridyl)methanesulfonate ligand allows for facile aerobic oxidation of a PtIIMe complex into PtIVMe(OH)2 species and clean C-O reductive elimination of methanol from the latter in either acidic or basic aqueous solutions. Copyright © 2006 American Chemical Society.
