Oxidative cleavage of the carbon-carbon double bond of alpha-substituted styrene derivatives proceeds under an atmospheric pressure of molecular oxygen at the solventless conditions to afford the corresponding ketones in moderate yields with no requirement for transition metal catalysts or photo-activation.
