Superplastic behavior of a Zr-10Al-5Ti-17.9Cu-14.6Ni metallic glass in the supercooled liquid region

摘要
The deformation behavior of a Zr-10Al-5Ti-17.9Cu-14.6Ni metallic glass was characterized in the supercooled region. The alloy was observed to exhibit a large tensile elongation in the supercooled region with a maximum tensile elongation of over 600% at 425-440 °C at a high strain rate of 10-2 s-1. The superplastic properties were found to be very sensitive to testing temperature. The alloy did not behave like a Newtonian fluid and the Non-Newtonian behavior of the alloys was caused by the concurrent crystallization of the amorphous structure during deformation. At temperatures above the crystallization temperature, the alloy exhibited limited ductility as a result of poor strain accomodation at the grain triple junctions.
