This paper is a partial and selective review of the development of biological microcalorimetry with particular emphasis on kinetic aspects. The review describes, in outline, the concerns expressed for the determination of kinetic parameters in previous publications (mostly drawn from the author's own interests) and concludes with a new kinetic analysis of the output from flow microcalorimeters.
