The reactions of several square-planar IrXL2(PR3) complexes with HSnR3 have been studied. The oxidative addition of HSnPh3 to the complexes IrCl(TFB)(PR3) (TFB = tetrafluorobenzobarrelene, PR3 = PCy3 (2), (PPr3)-Pr-i (3), (Pr2PCH2CH2OMe)-Pr-i (4)) leads to the hydrido-stannyl derivatives IrClH(SnPh3)(TFB)(PR3)(PR3 = PCy3 (5), (PPr3)-Pr-i (6), (Pr2PCH2CH2OMe)-Pr-i (7)), while the reactions of 2 and 3 with (HSnBu3)-Bu-II afford IrH2((SnBu3)-Bu-II)(TFB)(PR3) (PR3 = PCy3 (8), (PPr3)-Pr-i (9)). The tetrafluorobenzobarrelene diolefin of 2-4 can be displaced by carbon monoxide to afford IrCl(CO)(2)(PR3) (PR3 = PCy3 (10), (PPr3)-Pr-i (11), (Pr2PCH2CH2OMe)-Pr-i (12)). Similarly to 2-4, complexes 10-12 add HSnPh3 to give IrClH(SnPh3)(CO)(2)(PR3) (PR3 = PCy3 (13), (PPr3)-Pr-i (14), (Pr2PCH2CH2OMe)-Pr-i (15)), which can also be prepared from 5-7 by reaction with carbon monoxide. On treatment with AgOTf, 2 and 3 give Ir(OTf)(TFB)(PR3) (PR3 = PCy3 (16), (PPr3)-Pr-i (17)), which in the presence of HSnPh3 lead to IrH(OTf)(SnPh3)(TFB)(PR3) (PR3 = PCy3 (18), (PPr3)-Pr-i (19)).
