Huge thermal hysteresis loop and a hidden stable phase in a charge-transfer phase transition of Rb0.64Mn[Fe(CN)6]0.88•1.7H2O

摘要
The charge-transfer phase transition in (Rb0.64MnII)-Mn-I[Fe-III(CN)(6)](0.88)center dot 1.7H(2)O exhibits a surprisingly large thermal hysteresis loop of 138 K, i.e., the phase transition temperatures are 165 K (=T-1/2 down arrow) and 303 K (=T-1/2 up arrow). Switching between Fe-III-CN-Mn-II and Fe-II-CN-Mn-III causes this phase transition. When the sample is rapidly cooled, a hidden stable phase of Fe-III-CN-Mn-II is observed, which relaxes to Fe-II-CN-Mn-III at 114 K with a warming. A thermodynamical model under thermal equilibrium condition demonstrates this large thermal hysteresis loop and proves the existence of the hidden stable phase.
