Formation of a dicyanotriorganophosphorane from the reaction of triphenylphosphane with phenylselenocyanate

A glimpse of the elusive: A Group 15 triorganodicyanide has been prepared and crystallographically characterized for the first time. The reaction of phenylselenocyanate with triphenylphosphane affords a facile route to the elusive dicyanotriorganophosphorane Ph3P(CN)2. The complex reaction mechanism also results in formation of the diiminophosphorane Ph 3PNC(CN)2C(CN)2NPPh3. (Figure Presented) © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
