摘要
A 1972-73 study of modern and traditional value orientations among Anglo- and Mexican-Americans in Lubbock, Texas, is replicated. The instrument used earlier, consisting mainly of modernity items developed by Kahl, was administered in 1994 to a sample of Angles and Mexican Americans (n = 757). The results show a convergence of the two ethnic groups on modernity scales. Hispanics had moved in the direction of modernity, while on several scales Angles had become more traditional. Results are discussed in light of theories of assimilation and pluralism.
