The hydrogen confinement in LaNi5 and LaNi5Zr0.1 hydrides using poisonous gases

摘要
It has been shown that both CO and SO2 gases have the effect of sealing the LaNi5-hydride surface and therefore confining hydrogen. The sealed hydride is then stable in air at atmospheric pressure. We describe here the behaviour of CO treated LaNi5 and LaNi5Zr0.1 hydride powders with average particle size and temperature dependence of the sealing effect. The effect of an additional SO2 treatment to the GO-treated hydride is also demonstrated. The samples are studied by means of XRD, SEM, EPMA, XPS and PAC methods.
