摘要
It has been known for some time that the present practice of sewer design based on self-cleansing velocities is inadequate in certain circumstances. To overcome this a standardized design procedure has been developed. This paper is the second of two which describes the deficiencies of current design practice and outlines the progress of relevant research. A new approach to design is explained based on establishing the effects of the sediment bed on sewer hydraulics and on achieving the flow conditions required for sediment mobility. Three design criteria are proposed: cohesive sediment erosion, suspended sediment transport and bedload transport. The relative importance of each criterion is assessed and example charts are given for circular sewer design.
