Several advances in the catalysis of gold as discussed in the AURICAT network project is presented. Catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide by gold was studied below ambient temperature. Gold catalyzed oxide supported gas and liquid phase reactions were studied. Nanocrystalline support showed higher catalytic activity and selectivity for alcohols, aldehydes, and CO oxidations. Supported catalytic activity of gold led to Pd-Au catalytic production of vinyl acetate monomer from acetic acid, ethene, and oxygen in fixed beds. The vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) catalyst was developed for the catalysis of gold-platinum group metals (PGM).
