NOVEL ANTIFERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTALS WITH A TRIFLUOROMETHYL GROUP AT THE CHIRAL CENTER

摘要
The relationship between molecular structure and antiferroelectricity was investigated for the antiferroelectric liquid crystals which did not have any carbonyl moiety in the molecule. A chiral alkyl tail length had influence on phase transition temperature, enthalpy, spontaneous polarization (Ps) and tilt angle. Using a pair formation model of transverse dipole moments in adjacent smectic layers, the relationship was discussed.
