In situ EC-AFM observation of Cd electrodeposition on Au(100)

摘要
The atomic structures and the growth morphology involved in the electrodeposition of Cd onto Au(100) were monitored using electrochemical atomic force microscopy. The deposition was found to occur via an underpotential deposition process at potentials 0.56 V more positive than potential for CD bulk deposition, by the formation of (√2×√2)R45 °-Cd adlayer, until a complete monolayer of 1×1-Cd builds up. Alloying occurs via a turn over process, starting at ca. -0.3 V/NHE. During bulk deposition, Cd films are formed by a Stranski-Krastanov mechanism, with the Cd(0001) plane parallel to Au(100).
