The catalytic activity of Pt black towards the selective reduction of nitrogen oxides by propane under oxygen excess has been investigated and the results are put in perspective of reaction mechanisms as proposed in the literature. The absence of any NOx reduction provides further evidence for the active role of the Pt support in the selective reduction of nitrogen oxides by propane. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
