With the introduction of high-intensity MeV-energy cluster ion beams produced by electrostatic accelerators, several new phenomena can be studied relevant for material sciences as well as other research areas. In this paper a summary will be given on different cluster ion beams produced by the MP tandem accelerator in Orsay. Technical aspects of cluster ion production, acceleration, transportation and identification will be discussed in general. A liquid metal ion source installed at the terminal of the Orsay tandem accelerator will also be described as well as macromolecular ion beams accelerated from an electrospray ion source to MeV-energies in Uppsala.
