摘要
A study was conducted to provide information about the fundamental physical and chemical properties of ruthenium dioxide (RuO 2) catalysts. The investigations revealed that the electronic configuration of elemental Ru was 4d 7 5s 1, allowing it to form compounds with valences ranging from -II up to +VIII and making it a versatile metal center in complex chemistry. It was also found that RuO 2 crystallized with rutile structure, reflecting a strong tendency of Ru 4+ to acquire octahedral coordination. The high electronic conductivity of RuO 2 was one of the prerequisites for its intensive use as electrocatalyst and electric contacts in microelectronic devices. Its electrical resistance was also isotropic and increased with increasing temperature.
