Dynamical properties of graphite and peculiar behaviour of the low-energy plasmon

摘要
We revisit the electronical and dynamical properties of the graphite, studied by high-resolution energy electron loss spectroscopy (HREELS). We measured both the low-energy plasmon and the phonon modes, and we report a non-dielectric behaviour of the plasmon for primary energies in the range of 6-190 eV. Whereas we can follow the dispersion of the phonon modes, it appears impossible to obtain information about plasmon dispersion for \q(parallel to)\ above 0.18 Angstrom(-1). We compare our results with theoretical expectations and we discuss the nature of the excitation of the plasmon. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
