摘要
A broad overview of the current practices and future plans of leading e-government countries is presented. E-government efforts are most prevalent in Northern America, selected EU member nations in Western Europe, and several Asian information and communication technology (ICT) leading nations. In most countries, advanced e-government activities are at the federal level, and local governments are generally at the early stage of e-government development. Public organizations are facing challenges in expanding the e-government programs, as the levels of adoption and sophistication of e-government practices vary among global e-government leaders. An effective e-government program requires integration of appropriate ICT, good administrative processes, and government leadership. The new advances in ICT, such as Very-high-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) high-speed Internet, WiFi, and Next-Generation Network, can enhance e-government activities through ubiquitous computing.
