Determination of waveguide parameters of acrylonitrile-based polymer optical waveguides

摘要
The present study reports the study of styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) thin-film optical waveguides. Various waveguide parameters, namely refractive index, propagation losses and the depth of the dip-coated thin-film optical waveguide, have been optimized. The refractive index of SAN was found to be 1.576 and the propagation losses were less than 1 dB cm(-1). SAN exhibits excellent transmission (80-90%) in the visible and infrared regions, which shows that the material is promising for integrated optical devices.
