It has recently been shown that the presence of cyclophilin A (CyPA) in the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) virion is required for HIV-1 to infect and replicate. Here, Ralf Huss discusses the role of CyPA in HIV-1 function and possible treatment options.
