摘要：

Pneumococcal vaccines offer both promises in disease prevention and challenges in terms of deploying current vaccines and developing;the next generation of vaccines. With the recent breakthrough licensure of a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for routine use in children under the age of 5 years, this article reviews and updates the reader on issues surrounding pneumococcal vaccines and on the current results of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine trials.
