Observation of the Stranski-Krastanov growth transition in GdBa2Cu3O7-delta films

摘要
The growth of GdBa2Cu3O7-delta films on NdGaO3 (100) from the early stages of nucleation was monitored by in situ electrical conductivity measurements. A breakpoint in the dependence of conductivity versus thickness was observed at some critical thickness. Atom force microscopy investigations indicate that this critical thickness corresponds to the Stranski-Krastanov growth transition from two-dimensional (2D) layer-by-layer growth to 3D growth. The critical thickness was found to be very sensitive to the substrate density of defects and temperature.
