[Ru(mu-O2CH)(CO)(2)(PPh3)](2) in acetonitrile is an efficient catalyst precursor for the Michael addition of soft carbonucleophiles to butenone. The utilization of terminal alkynes as donors makes possible the selective formation of gamma,delta-ynones. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
