Potential-dependence of self-limited films formed by reduction of aryldiazonium salts at glassy carbon electrodes

A systematic study of the influence of electrolysis potential on film properties is presented. All potentials in acetonitrile solutions are reported and compared with that of ferrocenium/ferrocene couple. Surface coverages of 4-nitrophenylgroups were measured by using 4-nitrobenezenediazonium. The electrolysis was carried out for 10 and 100 minutes at three applied potentials. The blocking behavior of films formed by the reduction of benezenediazonium was examined. The observed responses were consistent with electron transfer occurring at small space active sites.
