A novel approach is proposed and realized for the fabrication of junctions for electrical measurements with enclosed Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) assemblies between super thin molecular electrodes. The molecular electrodes are produced on the basis of LB films of charge-transfer salts. Lateral patterning of the electrodes is carried out by the irradiation of conductive films with an electron beam, which results in the loss of their conductivity. It is possible to prepare in this way the samples for electrical investigations without any damage of incorporated LB films. The LB assemblies of different structures are studied. Probable conduction mechanisms are discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
