Bismuth triflate catalyzes the ring opening of epoxides with aromatic amines under aqueous conditions. The reaction proceeds rapidly and affords the corresponding beta-amino alcohols in excellent yields. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
