Reaction of the dilithium sale of tripyridyldiamine, Li(2)tpda, and CrCl2 in THF gave the pentachromium compound Cr-5(tpda)(4)Cl-2 . CH2Cl2 in which the metal atoms were arranged in a linear fashion with localized quadruple bonds Cr=Cr ... Cr=Cr ... Cr.
