Crystal growth and melting velocity of spin ordered 3He in 0.2 and 9 T

We present preliminary results of growth and melting at the interface between spin ordered solid He-3 and superfluid liquid He-3 both in a low magnetic field of 0.2 T and in a high magnetic field of 8.9 T. Measurements of the growth and melting velocity were performed by simultaneously observing the crystal using optical techniques with a low-temperature CCD camera and by using precise pressure measurements. Our results in low magnetic field agree qualitatively with those of Nomura et al. (J. Low Temp. Phys. 95 (1994) 715). (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
