Metal-insulator transition in the oxysulfides (La1-xCaxO) Cu1-xNixS studied by NMR

摘要
The electronic states of (La1-xCaxO)Cu1-xNixS were investigated by Cu-63 and La-139 nuclear-magnetic-resonance measurements. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation of Cu-63 in insulating (LaO)CuS (x=0) is confirmed to be of quadrupole origin. The ionic state of the Cu ion is considered to be Cu1+ (S=0) in (LaO)CuS. In the hole doped samples x>0.05, the magnetic relaxation dominates in nuclear spin-lattice relaxation (T-1) at low temperature, where it follows the Korringa relation of T1T=const, suggesting that the system is in a metallic state. The x dependence of (T1T)(-1/2) indicates that the metal-insulator transition is caused by diminishing the hole concentration with decreasing x.
