摘要
Thermal biology, water relations and behaviour of gregaria phase Spodoptera exempta caterpillars were examined in the field. Regression analysis indicated that these caterpillars are thermoconformers (T-b=0.218 + 1.14 T-a). Caterpillars tended to congregate at > 10 cm above the soil surface because of food availability. No evidence of behavioural thermoregulation was found. Field-collected caterpillars had a CTmin of 11.8 +/- 0.13 degrees C(mean +/- S.E.) and a CTmax of 55.9 +/- 0.45 degrees C. Caterpillars maintained reasonably constant body water contents and haemolymph osmolality (c. 330 mOsml.kg(-1)) despite fluctuations in microclimate. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
