Thinking inside the COF: Internally functionalized, boroxine-linked, three-dimensional, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) can be synthesized by co-crystallizing a truncated, trifunctional monomer with the parent tetrafunctional building block. The functionalized COFs possess accessible functional groups and a distinct interior microenvironment. In the picture the orange sphere corresponds to an alkyl chain or an allyl group in the pore interior. © 2012 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
