One in 30 people (∼200 million people worldwide) are infected by schistosomiasis, a predominantly African disease, which kills more than 200000 people each year. Given our ongoing interest in neglected diseases and drugs for their treatment, we provide herein the first comprehensive and detailed summary of the chemistry and biology of the antischistosomiasis drug praziquantel (1). © 2010 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH& Co.
