摘要
The completing of the Human Genome Project was hailed as providing a definitive sequence of the human genome. This sequence was believed to be virtually identical for every person on earth - and the major differences between individuals were believed to be small errors, perhaps a single DNA base different from the standard sequence. However, analysing individual human genomes has revealed startling irregularities. Regions of DNA were in some cases duplicated, in other cases completely missing. Scientists are now beginning to link these variations to human health and disease, and even diversity and evolution.
