Over the last several years, a class of materials known as skutterudites has shown substantial promise for potential thermoelectric applications. Specifically, Yb-filled skutterudites have shown high values for the thermoelectric figure of merit. For this work, a series of Yb-filled Ge-compensated skutterudites was synthesized; their thermoelectric properties measured, and the results analyzed. The results from the electrical and thermal transport measurements are presented here and the results are compared with that of previous data. (C) 2005 American Institute of Physics.
