This paper focuses on the proposal of new and simple indicators of cyclostationarity for the characterisation of vibration signals whose statistics are periodically varying with respect to some generic variable. Indicators of cyclostationarity from orders 1-4 are introduced and their statistical properties are derived. Two applications to the diagnostics of gears illustrate how to use these indicators. Results demonstrate their effectiveness for discriminating between different cyclostationary states. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
