摘要
A new generation of radio access technology has been emerging to provide broadband data services. Mobile worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) services that have been fully commercialized is suitable for use with unpaired spectrum, as WiMAX profiles use time division duplex (TDD). The 3GPP's long-term evolution (LTE), an enhanced UMTS terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN), is being developed initially for use in paired spectrum with frequency division duplex (FDD). It could be deployed in any existing cellular bands or in new spectrum around 2.5/2.6 GHz, or the 1.7/2.1 GHz advanced wireless system (AWS) band. A vendor has also announced a collaboration in China to ensure that LTE-TDD can offer a migration path beyond time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA). LTE is still in development to be capable for meeting the new IMT-Advanced requirements issued by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) for mobile communication systems.
