Proton elastic scattering cross section for carbon: confrontation of theory and experiment

The discrepancy between the evaluated C-12(p,p)C-12 cross sections and the results of the new measurement recently reported is discussed. It is shown that the basic assumption made while normalizing the new experimental data is inconsistent with the theoretical predictions. A classical approach Co the estimation of the limits of Rutherford scattering is shown to be misleading. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
