Terminal FeI-N2 and FeII...H-C interactions supported by tris(phosphino)silyl ligands

(Chemical Equation Presented) Taking hold: Monoanionic tris(phosphino)silyl ligands ([SiPR3] = [(2-R2PC6H 4)3Si]_) stabilize unusual five-coordinate FeI complexes. The silane [SiPPh3]H reacts with mesityliron(II) to give [(SiPPh3)FeIIMes], which displays a C-H agostic interaction. Treatment with HCl and reduction affords the terminally bonded FeI-N2 complex [(SiP Ph3)FeN2] (see scheme; structures show only donor atoms of [SiPPh3]), which yields hydrazine under protolytic conditions. © 2007 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
