A simple protocol for bulk synthesis of TiC hollow spheres from carbon nanotubes

摘要
A protocol for bulk synthesis of TiC hollow spheres from carbon nanotubes at low temperature was presented. Sodium-filled carbon nanotubes were prepared by heating carbon nanotubes with sodium at 400°C for 24 h. A maximum yield of 70% was obtained by reacting carbon nanotubes with excess TiCl4 and sodium at 350-450 °C in an autoclave. Transmission electron microscopy images showed that the TiC hollow structures had an average diameter of 55 nm with about 10 nm in wall-width.
