(Chemical Equation Presented) Lighting up lead: A Pb2+- regulatory protein from Ralstonia metallidurans has been converted into a highly sensitive fluorescent Pb2+ probe (PbR691, turquoise circles in scheme). This fluorescent system reveals that the protein exhibits a surprisingly high binding selectivity towards Pb2+ ions over other metal ions. © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
